Western Red Cedar

This wood is used primarily for building and construction purposes due to its strength and availability in large dimensions. It is one of the finest timbers for heavy structural purposes, including laminated arches and roof trusses. It is a first-class wood for the manufacturing of sashes, doors and windows.

The wood is used to produce a wide variety of products including general millwork, flooring, furniture, cabinets, veneer, vats, ship and boat construction, transmission poles and marine pilings.

Coastal Douglas Fir

Hemlock is used for general construction and plywood. It is used for laminating stock and the production of glue laminated and solid beams. Hemlock can be used for pulp and newsprint as well. Western Hemlock is an outstanding wood for mouldings and is also used for interior wood working. 

Other uses include: doors, windows, interior finish, floors, suspended ceilings, ladders and other purposes where a high grade softwood is needed. Kiln drying inhibits natural staining of the wood, improves strength and stiffness, enhances its appearance, and increases its resistance to decay and insect attack.

Yellow Cedar (Chamaecyparis nootkatensis)

This is one of the world’s most durable woods with exceptional longevity. It is used for shingles, poles, marine pilings, boat building and exterior doors. Structural grades are commonly used for exterior applications such as bridges, decking, stairs and landscaping.

It is also used in specialty projects such as temples, shrines, carving, wood working, cabinet work, decorative panels and furniture. Kiln drying inhibits natural staining, improves strength and stiffness, enhances its appearance and increases its resistance to decay and attack by insects.

High grade Sitka spruce is popular for specialty marine applications such as masts, spars and deck beams, ladder stock and industrial equipment where a high strength to weight ratio is desired. Clear grades are used in fine interior finishing such as sliding screens, mouldings, joinery and trim. The top clear grade wood is used for piano and guitar sound boards.
