THE ROLE
A&A Trading is currently seeking a motivated and well-organized individual to fill the position of Log Trader and Quality Control Supervisor. The objective is to actively manage the valuation of timber, processing of logs from the Falling phase to the Dryland Sorting/Booming phases to ensure the highest use and maximum value is achieved for all logs. This includes the accurate tracking of volumes leaving camp either by boom and/or barge. Responsibilities to achieve these objectives include working collectively with engineering staff to develop standing timber harvest valuations. The individual must be able to produce timber proformas /budgets for timber assessed.
The individual will also be responsible for log sales to specific clients and/or markets, domestic and/or export, the level of responsibility with log trading will be determined by the experience the successful candidate possesses.
This position is an engaged, hands on, field focused position with the opportunity to experience a wide variety of timber types across the BC coast from the Sunshine Coast, Mainland Coast, Haida Gwaii and Vancouver Island. All modes of travel, including boats, helicopters and fixed wing aircraft, are involved in accessing our operations.
The position is primarily a 5/2 work week with some occasional shift work as required.
This is a full-time salary position reporting to the General Manager of Log Supply.
Salary Range: $95-120K
REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Problem solver and entrepreneurial attitude
- Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in timber valuation(cruising), log sorting and/or QC supervision
- Registered with FPBC as an RPF or an RFT would be considered an asset but not required.
- A valid BC Scaler’s license is preferred but not required if the candidate already has extensive knowledge and experience with coastal log grading.
- Keen interest in learning and experiencing extensive field work within the coastal forest industry
- Self-motivated individual possessing strong communication and collaboration skills comfortable working in a team based, results oriented environment.
- A valid BC class 5 driver’s license is essential.
